Discuss the advantages of electric vehicle charging pile
Nowadays, there are more and more electric vehicles on our roads. However, due to the technical problems that first-time users must face, the world of electric vehicles is shrouded in a mysterious veil. This is why we decided to clarify one of the main aspects of the electric world: EV charging mode. The reference standard is IEC 61851-1, which defines four charging modes. We will look at them in detail and try to sort out the chaos around them.
Mode 1
It includes connecting the electric vehicle directly to the ordinary current socket without special safety system. Current and voltage ratings shall not exceed 16A and 250V for single phase and 16A and 480V for three phases.
Mode 2
Unlike Mode 1, this mode requires a specific security system between the grid connection point and the responsible vehicle. The system is placed on the charging line, called the control box. It is usually installed on the portable charger of electric vehicles. Mode 2 can be used for domestic and industrial sockets. Current and voltage ratings shall not exceed 32A and 250V for single phase and 32A and 480V for three phases.
Mode 3
This mode requires the vehicle to be charged through a power system permanently connected to the grid. The control box is directly integrated into the special charging point. This is the mode of wall box, commercial charging point and all AC automatic charging systems.
Mode 4
It is the only charging mode that provides direct current. This charging mode requires a current converter connected to the charging cable outside the vehicle. Generally, the charging station is much larger than a simple charging station, because there is a converter, which converts the current from AC to DC, and then flows to the electric vehicle through the charging cable.
For this mode, there are two standards, one is the Japanese standard and the other is the European standard, called CHAdeMO and CCS Combo respectively. Charging stations charged in mode 4 are allowed to charge to 200A and 400V, even if the legislation does not specify the maximum limit.
Although there are four standard charging modes, there are still many steps to be taken to realize electric transportation. Today's electric vehicle can be seen as both an electrical device and a simple vehicle. This duality makes the standardization of electric vehicles more complex and difficult.
